There are 6 essential steps to making your own online store and each step
will set you up to make the next step easier.
Step #1
You need a method to pay for your website service. If you do not have a
credit card, please purchase a pre-paid credit card to use ONLY for your
business - get one that you can re-Load! Put $50 on it to start to allow
yourself some wiggle room.
Step #2
Sign up for a
account. This will be used to RECEIVE income from your
business. You can connect it to your bank account or credit card to receive
money, but also to purchase services you may need down the road.
Step #3
Decide what you want to sell on your website. If you have special interests or
hobbies, that would be a good place to start your considerations. Keep in
mind that your Website Name should be reflected in your Domain Name. For
example, my website sells bouquets of flowers for all occasions - my website
name is "Callie's Online Flowers" and my domain name is calliesflowers.com.
Keep it related.
Step #4
Sign up at Linkshare...
This company is who you will partner with
to provide the links to companies you will feature on your website. That is by
far the easiest way to sell things online. Everytime someone purchases
something from a company on your website, that company pays you a
commission. You don't have to handle products, returns, payments etc. All
you do is keep your links and pictures up to date and get a nice cheque in the
mail every month.
Step #5
Go to the "Programs" tab on the Linkshare website and select "Categories".
Browse through the different categories until you find the one area you are
interested in and click on the category name. It will open up a list of
merchants you can choose from. I recommend that you select about 12
merchants in your related Niche. For example, lets say you select the
Food & Drink Category... You'll notice right away that there is Soda, Tea,
Flowers, Jenny Craig, Water, Diet, Coffee, Fruit, Gift Basket, Organic, etc, etc.
There are many different sub-categories within the Food & Drink Category.
A Niche is picking One or Two sub-categories to feature on your website. A
Coffee Niche for example... you could also feature Water merchants because
you need water for Coffee. You could choose merchants who feature organic
coffee, regional coffees, and also merchants who feature tea products in
addition to coffee products. Keep Coffee as the central theme of the website
and feature closely related products that your customer would buy WITH the
coffee. You could stretch it as far as offering coffee making machines and
supplies as well.
The natural progression of choosing your niche is that it then becomes easier
to name your site and choose your domain name. Your website could
be called something like "All things Coffee" and the domain name would follow
in the same theme... www.allthingscoffee.com... I hope you get the picture.
Step #6
Once you have chosen your theme and have a good idea of what you want your
website address to be, then it is time to sign up for your Free Trial of the
Website Service that is ultimately going to make you some much appreciated
Cash from your Website store and referrals.
